Get Your Off-Road ATV Ready For Spring
As the snow melts away, it often means one thing for the backcountry enthusiasts; the off-road season is just around the corner. Unfortunately, having our ATV toys sit through the cold weather months means you can't just jump on it and start ripping. Some spring maintenance needs to be taken care of to get the best out of the riding season.
Say goodbye to the snowmobile until the winter months return and dust off your ATV, UTV, side-by-side or any other off-road vehicle you have.
Maintenance Checklist
Each off-road vehicle will have slight variations of recommended servicing, so before you begin, read through the manufacturer's specifications for your specific 4x4. Taking care of the maintenance from the beginning will ensure your ATV riding season kicks off well, making trail riding a breeze.
Start with a visual inspection of your machine. At this point, you'll want to look for any leaks in hoses and look to see where the fluid levels are at. On your maintenance checklist, you should also have to check tire pressure, notice if there are any loose chains, and keep an eye out for any general wear and tear. The last thing on your visual inspection; look for any critters who have made home during the winter months in places like under fenders or mufflers.
Next on your spring maintenance list should be to do an oil change yourself or take it to the experts in the service department at FFUN Motorsports Saskatoon. Even if you did an oil change before storing it for the winter months, it's best to do another one at the beginning of riding season as any unused oil can congeal. After all, you don't want to be having lubrication issues or have your oil levels down while trail riding.
Don't forget to check your battery (if your machine has one). There shouldn't be any issues if you had it on a charger all winter. If you didn't, you might need to charge it or replace it. You will also want to look for any leaks on your battery, as battery acid can do some severe damage. Finally, check your brakes. There is nothing worse than ripping around and then realizing your brake pads on worn. Safety first, always.
